Adam and I read this Big Burn book together and took the family down to Historic Wallace Idaho. It is a small little town that very much plays up its history. This book talks about the HUGE forest fire of 1910 and how it burned Wallace and spread over Washington, Idaho, and Montana. It was kind of a big deal. One of the heros, Pulaski, saved most of his crew in this cave and now they have a nice trail so history lovers like my husband can take their families to see it. It was nice. The hike was 2 miles to the cave (that is 4 miles total people.) That makes it officially the longest hike Adam and I have been on together. To be honest it may have been the only hike as Adam doesn't like to walk unless he has some golf clubs with him, and even then would prefer a cart.
The hike was fun, I enjoyed the whole Wallace day. We watched an 80 year old man do a magic show. It was the kind of show that looked like everything was going wrong and you just felt so sorry for the guy as he was shaking up there and then he baffled me with a clock trick that makes me still wonder how he did it. We also got a delicious huckleberry milkshake, we got Sadie her own which she promptly spilled all over the street.
The highlight of the trip however was the hike and the tunnel. Don't be fooled by the picture. I did most of the stroller pushing.
